LPU- Batangas Utilizes APSA’s Online Standards- Based Assessment
For many years, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (LPU-B) has partnered with the Asian Psychological Services and Assessment (APSA) in assessing student performance by implementing APSA’s Standards- Based Assessment (SBA) in its various academic programs.
The SBA is the latest assessment technology that addresses the needs of schools for quality assessment that will identify what students should know or what students should be able to do at a certain year level. The SBA objectively assesses students’ proficiency level and pinpoints competencies of students and learning gaps which serve as bases for learning reinforcement or remediation.
LPU- B, one of the most reputable universities in the country, an ISO-9001:2015 certified institution, and a recipient of Philippine Quality Award (PQA) for Proficiency in Quality Management fulfills its commitment to provide quality education by implementing the SBA and maximizing the utilization of the SBA results. In an interview during the Principals’ Circle convention in 2019, LPU’s HS Principal Dr. Vivian Perez shared how APSA’s SBA results benefit their institution and how they maximize the use of the data in developing curricular and instructional reforms.
This year, in collaboration with LPU’s Counseling and Testing Center, APSA successfully administered the online SBA in the High School and Tertiary level. The SBA in English Math, and Science were administered from Grade 7-9 students last October. Grade 10 students on the other hand, took the Assessment for Senior High School Potential (ASHSP).The ASHSP provides the best perspective and suggestions to prepare the students for the academic demands of the senior high school program.
For the higher education, APSA’s College Preparedness Test is also being used by the university as one of the assessment tools for the selection and admission to the tertiary level. It is a comprehensive test to assess the potential of senior high school, particularly Grade 12 to enter the college level. For the Nursing program, the Assessment for Nursing Potential (ANP) was successfully administered to 2nd year nursing students last November 28. The results of the ANP provide relevant information about the strengths and weaknesses of the students accepted to the lower nursing division level. Through this, early intervention programs may be developed to address difficulties either through the curriculum, the teaching strategies or attitudinal changes, before proceeding to the upper nursing division level.
The pioneer and the leader in Standards- Based Assessment, APSA has conducted over a thousand of online tests across the country and abroad since May 2020. With APSA’s online testing, students are able to take the SBA in the comforts and safety of their homes.
